Still Life - Bela Borsodi

I'm becoming more and more interested in still life photography, here is an example of a photographer whos work I especially like.

Bela Borsodi

Bela Borsodi is a still life photographer based in New York. He transforms the way we see things by taking them out of context, the end result is controversial and changes your perspective. Giving a whole new life to the subject at hand.

“I love making things and putting things in an unusual context, incorporating various visual languages coming from art and graphic design – eroticism is also a fascination of mine that I love exploring" - Bela Borsodi - Featured Arrtist Interview - TAXI

Marvellous, magnificent Miu Miu

From the S/S 2011 shows I was sieving through in November, to Vogue's February issue. Spring 2011 is upon us, which means so is this magnificent jacket! And it is to be marvelled at.

Miu Miu S/S 2011 from style.com and VOGUE February 2011 - Look Forward

Today I Love Kate Phelan

Fashion Director and stylist at British Vogue, Kate Phelan is the styling genius behind the following beauties:

VOGUE - January 2010 - Gypsy Girl
Photographer - Willy Vanderperre

VOGUE - March 2010 - China White
Photographer - Tim Walker

The Star Signs editorial is my favourite of the Vogue December 2010 editorials. Each image jumped straight of the page and is now dancing around in my imagination.

By playing with whimsical environments and magical sets and props, the make believe visuals weave perfectly into the horoscopes theme.

With each page representing a star sign, the accompanying nine images are just as delightful.

Kay Montano - Makeup Artist
James Pecis - Hair Stylist

Russian Dolls

Why have russian dolls appeared all over my life? On my necklace, printed on my suitcase, in my magazines, on my windowsill. I realised the seriousness of my little fascination in September last year when I found myself wanting to buy face paints. My reason for doing so? To transform myself into a life size russian doll, just for funsies. Not the average evening for a nineteen year old, some may say.

For what ever reason they have emerged onto the fashion scene I must say that I fully appreciate them, and I am really quite glad they have been bobbing around for a while. Such odd little things with smiling faces and pink rosy cheeks, I shall be sad when we all find ourselves growing tired of them in the very near future.

The Vogue October 2010 issue was particularly well received by me for this very reason.

As a styling student, the images bellow entice me to no end. And as much as I love vogue, I get bored of the trend pages, of looking a beautiful things that I know I am no where near being able to afford, nor will I be for the next decade of my life. So I look to the magazine for images like these. For styling ideas, and shoot concepts, and for new ways of expressing fashion and art through photography and image making.

What do I love about them?
  • The creative poses.
  • The specific colour palette for each outfit - using varieties and shades of the same colour.
  • The makeup is playful and disturbing. At the same time.
  • The hats and headpieces. I really LOVE a good hat.
