The English education system

This led me to think about the flaws of this countries education system. Although the school in Baeza didn't have enough funding to provide the materials they needed to teach all the kids, it was obvious that the school recognised that all children are different. And therefore need to be taught differently.

The structured system that runs in our country doesn't allow much consideration for this fact. Everyone is put into certain bands, of their abilities and intelligence levels, but it is not really relevant that everyone also learns in different ways.

As an example of this I drew on my experience of school and thought about whether I thought this was the case at my school or not. I went to a high achieving all girls grammar school, where the girls are intelligent and encouraged to achieve the best GCSE and A level results that they can.

Alot of my friends have gone on to do academic subjects at university, such as law, medicine, biomedical science, english and anatomy. However, being more creative than I am academic, I found it difficult to make myself care about my academic subjects at school, and dedicated all my time to art. It was all I was interested in. I felt alot of pressure to focus more on my other subjects, and at the time, felt a bit of a failure for not wanting to. It wasn't until I left school that I realised the communal pressure that is felt by all the girls at the school. It is A grades, or your a failure. And I saw alot of anorexia, mental break downs and excessive stress at my time at the school.

I think this is a good example of one of the let downs of our system in the UK. Other students that cannot memorize an entire text book, and that learn in a different way will have probably experienced the same issues that I did.

The system is designed to get the best out of kids and students, but it isolates all who don't fit into the categories that they lay out.
